Rubicon is a maritime consulting firm advising boat owners on all major decisions related to vessel ownership, including purchasing, operating, cruising, managing, and refitting.
Who we are
We firmly believe that while owning a boat is expensive, it does not have to be stressful. Our backgrounds range from running extensive expedition yachts and tandem operations to managing multi million dollar refit projects. Our mission is to bring this real-world experience to an industry that often lacks the in-depth operational knowledge on both how vessels work and how to best make them work for you.
MoreWhy we're here
We started this company for boat owners because we saw issues throughout the lifecycle of most vessels we encountered:
- Boat owners want to travel the world but are ill-advised on what to look for in a boat to accomplish that goal. They often set out on purchasing a boat with specifications that don’t align with their travel goals.
- Once purchased, there is little guidance on what work needs to be done (often surprised by the fact that most boats are not “ready to go” as promoted) and how to properly set up/manage an ongoing operation.
We have found a successful ongoing model that balances owner use with vessel travel and mandatory maintenance that we believe can work across all programs.
How we help
Whether you’re stepping into owning a boat for the first time, are making a significant step up in your ownership journey, all parties can benefit from consulting with a third-party that has no ulterior motives tied to your decisions. We don’t accept any form of kickbacks or commissions and we also believe that if you’re going to do something, it should be done properly. While we don’t claim to know everything, we are well-versed in making recommendations that have a boat owner’s best interests in mind.
MoreHow we think
We believe that decisions related to a boat should be rooted in realities and not dreams, with the information needed to match the level of the investment. Refits are just one example of where the planning and preparation process require exceptional attention to detail. The money spent, and currently wasted, warrants a new, robust approach. Here’s our view on how to handle a refit.
